An image can be worth a thousand words and when it comes to running a successful food blog, increasing your social media following or promoting your business, getting your imagery right has never been so important.
We all eat with our eyes and for us at Daylesford, food imagery is something we’re really passionate about. When it comes to photographing food there are so many tricks to be learnt that will add to your images both aesthetically and compositionally. The use of colour, tone, texture, props and lighting all play an important role, as does bringing them all together to create a beautiful and inspiring photograph.
For us it’s all about styling our food with real ingredients – a brush of olive oil, a sprinkling of nuts or a crumble of pastry – rather than anything artificial or inedible. We want our food and imagery to be as natural as possible reflecting our organic roots and for our recipes to be achievable for all of our readers.
Our new food styling courses at The Cookery School are all about helping people make a difference when it comes to mastering food imagery to market brands, blogs or social media channels. Our full day course is designed to cover the basics of food styling and styling areas that will help you to develop your skills and confidence. Together we will cook and prepare a series of simple dishes and then style and photograph them together, focusing on the following areas over the course of the day:
- Defining your own look
- Camera angles
- Lighting your photographs
- The use of props
- Everyday styling tips
- Capturing the simple beauty of organic fruit and vegetables
- Post production
This course is designed for people of all abilities and we ask that all attendees bring with them their own camera, an SLR if at all possible.
Full Day Course, £185pp, 9.30am-4pm
Course price includes all materials, food, refreshments and of course a tasty lunch.
